BMW Motorrad has taken a bold swing at redefining the electric scooter, unveiling the Vision CE concept ahead of its public debut at the Munich Motor Show on September 8. This isn’t your average step-through commuter—it arrives with a full roll cage, seatbelt, and even a headrest, aiming to make helmets and heavy riding gear optional.
At first glance, the Vision CE looks like a mashup between BMW’s futuristic CE 04 scooter and a mobility aid. A conventional front end leads into squared-off bars that wrap around the rider, doubling as both styling elements and a protective frame. Slim LED headlights, cage-mounted auxiliary lamps, and a compact windscreen further push its unconventional aesthetic.
BMW has leaned into customization too, hinting at add-ons like a detachable Bluetooth speaker, a luggage rack, or even a transparent roof panel for added comfort.
Inside the cage, the rider is greeted with a high-back seat complete with a headrest and integrated seatbelt. A section of metal mesh above the headrest adds another layer of protection. The cockpit is dominated by a wide digital display paired with traditional handlebars, large footrests, and a covered charging port.
The scooter is fully electric, though BMW hasn’t shared performance specs yet. What it did confirm is an advanced self-balancing system that keeps the vehicle upright when stationary, making urban riding less stressful.
According to BMW, the Vision CE was designed to offer “a new sense of freedom” and a more laid-back riding experience. Whether it sparks admiration or raised eyebrows, one thing’s certain—the Vision CE pushes scooter design into uncharted territory.
