Mercedes-AMG has taken its customer racing program to new heights with the GT2 Edition W16—a limited-run, track-only machine that blurs the line between GT racing and Formula 1. Priced at $790,000 and capped at just 30 units worldwide, this special edition is the most powerful customer car the brand has ever created.
A Design That Screams Motorsport
The GT2 Edition W16 isn’t shy about its racing intent. Dressed in a bold livery with a hand-painted star motif wrapping the rear, the car channels the look of Mercedes-AMG’s Formula 1 challenger. It rides on 18-inch center-lock magnesium wheels with green accents, another nod to the brand’s F1 heritage.
Aerodynamics get a major upgrade over the standard GT2. Expect a larger front splitter, carbon-fiber rear lip, unique side mirrors, and active louvres above the front wheels. A full Drag Reduction System (DRS) even flattens the rear wing and seals the louvres for maximum straight-line speed—north of 199 mph (320 km/h).
Race-Ready Cockpit
Inside, the cockpit is stripped for purpose. A new steering wheel, matte carbon trim, and emerald-green highlights set the tone, while a “1 of 30” badge on the center console cements its exclusivity. Rising star Kimi Antonelli’s signature adorns the door sills, adding extra motorsport cachet. Safety kit includes a carbon-fiber safety cell, fire suppression system, emergency hatch, nets, and a five-point harness—everything you’d expect from a pure-bred race car.
Power, With an Extra Kick
Under the hood sits AMG’s familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, but this version has been thoroughly reworked. With new turbochargers and updated electronics, it delivers a monstrous 818 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque—121 hp more than the regular GT2.
And that’s not all. Thanks to a Push2Pass system, drivers can unleash an additional 98 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque at the press of a button, making overtakes (or bragging rights) even easier. The engine pairs with a six-speed sequential racing gearbox, reinforced by a carbon-fiber torque tube and a fully adjustable race-spec suspension.
The Ultimate AMG Experience
Every GT2 Edition W16 will be handed over at a European circuit, where owners will receive track time, a technical deep dive into the car, and a chance to meet drivers and senior figures from the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team. To sweeten the deal, AMG throws in a custom racing suit, helmet, and car cover—because for $790K, you should look the part too.
Final Word
At nearly $800,000, the GT2 Edition W16 isn’t just a car—it’s an all-access pass to AMG’s motorsport universe. With blistering performance, Formula 1 tech, and ultra-limited availability, it’s one of the most extreme customer cars ever to wear the three-pointed star.
