The RUF CTR2 Sport: A Million-Dollar Monster with Pikes Peak Pedigree

Back in 1997, RUF—the legendary Porsche whisperers—brought two of their wildest creations to Pikes Peak: the CTR2 Sport, an ultra-rare beast with only 14 ever made. Under that sleek body? A 3.6L twin-turbo flat-six pumping out 580 horsepower, straight from Porsche’s 962 Group C racer. Now, one of these unicorns is hitting the auction block with an estimated price tag of $3–$3.5 million—and it’s got a story to tell.

Why This RUF is Special

RUF has always been the secret sauce behind some of the most insane 911-based machines, and lately, collectors are going nuts for them. A CTR "Yellowbird" recently sold for $6.1 million, and another fetched $4.68 million. Now, meet the 1998 CTR2 Sport—the first U.S.-legal RUF, based on the 993-generation 911, but cranked up to "no compromises" levels.

Only 14 were built, and this one’s even rarer: all-wheel drive (most were RWD) paired with a six-speed manual. That air-cooled twin-turbo engine isn’t just powerful—it’s a race-bred masterpiece, rocketing the car to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and a 217-mph top speed, making it the fastest production car of its time.

From Pikes Peak to Your Garage?

This particular CTR2 Sport was originally owned by Frank Beddor, whose sons Steve and David raced two of them at Pikes Peak in 1997. It stayed in the family until 2007, then got a factory refresh at RUF, including a bold green leather interior, an integrated roll cage, and upgraded Bilstein suspension.

Now, with just 16,679 miles, it’s heading to Broad Arrow Auctions during Monster Energy… err, Monterey Car Week. Here’s why it’s a big deal:

One of 14 CTR2 Sports—lighter, faster, rarer
580 hp twin-turbo flat-six, 6-speed manual, AWD
0-100 km/h in 3.6 sec, 217-mph top speed (fastest in the ‘90s!)
Black exterior, full green leather inside, with RUF’s signature roll cage
Carbon-ceramic brakes (ahead of its time)
Freshly serviced (July 2025) by RUF North America

The Ultimate Air-Cooled RUF?

If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a 1990s hypercar slayer with Pikes Peak history, this might be your only shot. Because let’s face it—when’s the next time one of these 14 legends will be up for grabs?
